Culture Tips for Venti Parfait™ Dianthus
Featuring super-sized flowers on a vigorous plant, the Venti Parfait dianthus performs well all season. This dianthus, introduced at Spring Trials earlier this year, features similar culture to Super Parfait™ dianthus with the exception of plant growth regulator (PGR) requirements. Since Venti Parfait is a larger plant, PGRs may need to be applied at higher rates or more frequently. Venti Parfait is ideal for 4-inch production. read more

Calliope® Geranium PGR Recommendations
Excellent vigor, great mounding habit and vibrant color make Calliope geraniums best sellers. Because it's a vigorous geranium, it's critical to grow Calliope with sufficient space, good light conditions, adequate fertilization and proper growth regulation. This variety responds well to early PGR treatments, but growers need to evaluate growing conditions and timing carefully to determine the best PGR and method of application. read more
Fafard, Scotts Partner on New Technology
Using special Fafard growing mixes, growers can reduce production costs while growing better crops with less negative impact on the environment. The Scotts Company has an exclusive partnership with Conrad Fafard to incorporate Osmocote® Start in Fafard professional mixes. This complete N-P-K fertilizer plus magnesium and micronutrients uses a patented coating technology as a starter or pre-plant fertilizer charge for young plants. read more
Kwik Kombos™ — Easy as 1-2-3
Selected for color, compatibility and strong retail presentation, the Kwik Kombos program maximizes production efficiency and increases margins for growers. The program, offered by Syngenta Flowers, features a 3-in-1, custom-grown rooted liner. Each recipe features three GoldFisch® varieties in a single 30mm x 40mm liner that is rooted for five weeks, pre-pinched and ready for transplant. New for 2011, growers can purchase unrooted cuttings. The plant-and-go process dramatically increases transplanting productivity. read more
Syngenta Flowers Strategy in Action
Heartland Growers in Westfield, Ind., wanted a more sustainable approach to its poinsettia production. They successfully used beneficial insects, but it wasn't cost-effective. The Syngenta team developed an integrated crop management program that controlled pests and costs. It included Syngenta Flowers genetics, Fafard growing media, Syngenta Bioline beneficial biologicals and a compatible insecticide spray from Syngenta Professional Products. This solution reduced costs by 50 percent and controlled whitefly, fungus gnats, shore fly and thrips. read more
